Essay explaining what sales promotions are used in advertising campaigns

Write a short essay (1 paragraph) explaining what sales promotions are used in advertising campaigns. In your opinion, what types of sales promotions are the most effective? What types of sales promotions are the least effective?

Sales promotion is a way of promoting sales in the short terms. For example if you see a sign of up to 50% off till a certain date or summer sales, it is an example of sales promotions.

I think that free gift is an effective sales promotion as the customers get something concrete on the spot. On the other hand, Competitions and lucky draws are not so effective as those who do not win it are left disappointed.

My view point about contests and lucky draws is also the same. Companies and those offering promotions want to attract customers. But if a person loses a contest or a lucky draw, would he feel good towards the brand? I don’t think so. Therefore, promotions should offer that the consumers are sure to get.

Usually what we call “free stuff” is already paid for by us when we buy a product on promotion. These companies are clever enough to make a calculation and take the amount they would spend on the free offering from the customers themselves included in the prices of the products their consumers buy for themselves.
