Your Footprint

  1. How big is your footprint (how many Earth do you need)?

In was amazed to know that it would need 3.9 Earths if everyone started to live like me. It means that I am not living a greener life and I need to change my habits when it comes to using energy and consuming food that does not come from sustainable resources. Sustainability is what we need in each and every sphere of life to be able to live in a world that will fulfill the needs of our future generations and even ours.

  1. Why is your footprint bigger than 1 Earth?

According to the results, there are many reasons my footprint is bigger than 1 earth. The first thing is that I am a part of a city living which is consuming and wasting most of the world’s resources. People from villages and towns are moving to big cities and by 2015, 70 to 80% people will be living in cities which will multiply the need for resources the world cannot produce.

Another reason is the means of transportations that I use to move around. I mean that I use a car or another fossil fuel consuming source of transportation even for short rides. Cars and busses, which run on fossil fuels like petrol and diesel produce greenhouse gases which are dangerous for the environment that we live in and contribute to global warming.

  1. What can you do to reduce your footprint (practical proposals/changes)?

I think that the first step would be to start to walk if I need to go to a nearby place and if it is some place within two miles range, I need to use a bicycle. Another step that I can take is to start saving energy and stop wasting any. This is simple because not leaving lights on when you do not need them can be helpful. Another step it to start eating organic food because they are not produced with the help of chemical fertilizers which are not good for the environment.
