Ecology Lab: The producers

The producers

Step 1

What assumptions does this model make about co-dominance as well as the general terrain of the ecosystem?

This model believes in the evolutionary process in which codominance is not always possible because the fittest and most adoptive will be the ultimate winner.

Do you find one producer to be dominant? Why might one producer be dominant over another?

To be able to be most suited for the environment in hand can help in dominance. Therefore, Plant A was dominant over the others.

Step 2

Does adding the herbivore establish a more equal field? Is one producer still dominant over the other? Why might one producer be dominant over another?

Plant A is dominant. Adding herbivore might mean that they could eat more of the Plant A and hence Plant B could grow more often.

If the simulation included decomposers, how would your current results change?

If there were decomposers, they would provide a more level playing field for both the plants and both would have a similar chance of growth.

How producer population numbers with the presence of an herbivore compare to the primary colonizer model?

The produce number with the presence of herbivore may impact the primary colonizer model in any way. If the producer number is increase within a limit, there would be balance in the model. But, if the increase in the population is too high, there might be an imbalance in the model.
