Porn stars, prostitutes, strippers, and call girls

Porn stars, prostitutes, strippers, and call girls: Should sex workers have the right to give or refuse consent in terms of what they are expected to do for money? Do they have the right to complain about and report sexual harassment, sexual assault, and rape in the sex work industry? How does the stigma placed on sex workers affect how the above questions should be answered, in your opinion? Be sure and refer to information from the podcast in your answer. (listen to the whole thing…some of the best stuff is later in the podcast)

The start of the #metoo movement is encouraging, though I have some reservations against how some people might use to target people they hate. But, that is not common, which is a relief. There does exists misogynist people in the society who believe women to be inferior to them. The podcast has pointed towards toxic masculinity which is a state of mind in my opinion. Such people think they have to please themselves the way they want. Now, when it comes to the topic of consent, people with a state of toxic masculinity in their minds would not agree to it. They believe you pay a female sex worker money and can use and abuse her which is against any ethics and human rights. I think that not only should sex workers report sexual harassment and sexual assault but also, there should be strict laws to punish the culprits who are involved in such hideous crimes.

The question of stigma place on sex workers is really interesting. I think that due to how we have learned throughout our lives, we do not consider being a sex worker as a profession. Therefore, we might think that questions such as asked in the prompt may look strange which is unfortunate.
