Should ISPs Be Allowed to Control Your Internet Usage?

Should ISPs be allowed to control your Internet usage? I feel they should, but only if the program sticks to what is was design for according to the Federal Communications Commission and not go outside their boundaries to make profit.  I have experienced the regulated and limit speed on data usage.  My phone seems to run a lot slower when it is close to an ending of a billing cycle or if am late on a bill.  I don’t know if Apple is using this kind of program to make the outdated iPhones to act up and run slower.  The IOS updates they kick out seem to help this process happen and made me update from a iPhone 5s to iPhone 7.  The speed on the 7 is much faster and quick on downloading.

Drop Packets was another word being tossed around and is being used so the ISPs programs don’t get into trouble.  How it work’s instead of the costumer immediately going into the Internet or web page using their data access.  They are kick out using a drop door, so it seems they never connected on the Net.  This will continue until space is available on the network and this happens to a few million costumers to open space.  So it seems like you are just being dropped rather than speed of your network running slower.

How would a company make a profit from using this type of programs?  Having a commercial run on TV asking the viewer “if your Network if stuck on loading or is the connection speeds running slow.”  Companies answer these questions by telling consumers, you must upgrade your speed and buy our services to never have these problems again.  We spend money for better service and a guarantee on a quick reliable speed.  Truth maybe we just have a program being forced on us to keep from being a reliable system.

I strongly believe that ISPs should not be able to control a user’s internet usage. I think that if ISPs were to have the ability to control a consumer’s internet usage that it would violate net neutrality, violate customer’s first amendment rights, and could lead the country in a direction towards a more fascist society.

One of the reasons why the internet is such a great resource is because it is open to anyone, at almost anytime, and you can find/have access to practically everything you need! The creation and development of the internet alongside the concept of net neutrality has lead to hundreds of thousands of new innovations, enabled people all across the world to communicate with each other, and simplified everyday tasks such as paying bills or applying to jobs. If we were to allow ISPs to control internet usage it would set us back tremendously in innovation. ISPs controlling internet usage would also violate the first amendment by limiting users free speech with their ability to control what content is put out on the internet and what websites we are and are not able to access. The government giving ISPs total control of the internet is just a way for them to gain control over the people. If the government were to succeed in giving ISPs control over internet usage what will they try to control next? Unfortunately, this is a very real and pertinent issue and if net neutrality is repealed it could most certainly lead to the United States, the supposed “land of the free”, becoming a more and more fascist society.
