Describe some of the principles behind the Constitution

Describe some of the principles behind the Constitution. Discuss how separation of powers and checks and balances are supposed to operate. How did the Constitution arrange the power relationships between the national government and the states? Do you think this relationship is effective in 2017?  Why or why not?  Please provide examples to support your position.

The constitution was meant to strengthen the influence that the central government had on the states given that such influence was being seen as weak by the founding fathers of the nation after independence. Although much has been achieved under this constitutional arrangements, there are still numerous struggles being experienced within the federalist system. For instance, there are some states which advocate for the legalization of marijuana, an idea which would ordinarily not be agreed by the central government, given the impact that the drug can have on the users and the country as a whole. Another example is the Obamacare bill that has been a key issue on the debating forum of  United States of America. The bill was meant to ensure that all Americans have an equal opportunity to access health care irrespective of whether they are economically well muscled or not. Struggles in this kind of arrangement were evident when different states came up with different opinions either in support or in rebuttal. When Donald Trump was campaigning, thwarting the Omabacare ideas was one of his key agenda and indeed people are waiting to see what will become of American health system if he will ever work on his counter-ideas about Obamacare.

With the above examples, it is clear that the central government and the states are in constant power struggle as evidenced  through the push and pull that arises whenever there is a contentious issue. Ideally, each state would love to have their interests put at heart but this may not necessarily be a solution to all the other states. Such a scenario is brought about by different demographic disparities such as economic status, race, education among others that are a great influence to the stability of America as a nation.

To conclude, a federal arrangement of governorship of  a state has different challenges, much as as it has its own advantages. The centrality of these challenges lies in the fact that that it is difficult to unify the interests of individual states which have an impact on the entire nation. As such, it is important to have sound diplomatic approach to issues affecting both the state and the whole nation when handling them.
