Discuss why unions are much more prevalent in the government sector than they are in the public sector.

One of the biggest changes in the union movement has happened mostly under the radar, but it has big consequences for union officials, workers and the public at large. Unions used to be powerful in the private sector. But now, most union workers nationwide are government employees. It has been this way since 2009. It is because government workers, they are less likely to bargain with businesses that are seeking to maximize profits and more likely to bargain with politicians who want to maximize their support. As the temptation for politicians will always be to trade taxpayer money for union support.

As for government unions, an economy that fails to grow is not a pressing concern because they can press for tax increases to make up any lost income and preserve government programs that employ their own members. This is a big part of why government unions – but not private sector unions – have been major backers of the progressive tax hike push. The unions are prevalent in different government sectors. For instance health sector, since in those sectors government unions can be blasé about the imploding health-insurance marketplaces because governments are in a better position to pay whatever is needed to maintain quality insurance than almost any private employer is. So that unions are more prevalent in government sector than public sector.

Answer 2

There can be different uses and factors of the union that can be studied into the public sector and into the private sector. However, the union is not very useful in the public sectors in comparison to the private sectors because the diversification among employees can create problems in working with union. The union forces of the public sector are insulated, and they use the democratic style of working with their employees. In the union of private sectors, the employee selects their employees with their own voting and use the union to make a different decision about their taxpayers and other workplace activities and decision with the employer.
