What were the fundamental principles of the Constitution which emerged from the Constitutional Convention?
The Articles of Confederation’s failure to control all aspects of the new nation made it necessary to convene to draft the Constitution. The inadequacies in the Articles of Confederation were corrected by the Constitution. The Constitution installed a bicameral legislature and the separation of powers that we are familiar with today. The idea of checks and balances at the national level allowed for there to be a consensus on how the federal system could function well in the United States. Also, the idea of popular sovereignty allowed for a basis in the new Constitution on how the national government would function as a democratic body.
