When should someone from outside a company be hired to manage the company or one of its business units?

Hiring from outside a company can be threatening to current employees.  However, when an organization has exhausted all ideas of current team members, fresh ideas are welcomed.  Keeping jobs inside and building from within has its strengths.  People know the system and get along with other team members.  Sometimes, if a company wants to continue to grow, outside experience isn’t a bad choice of hire.  This can keep the work culture fresh.  Current ideas and skills eventually run into limitations.

Keeping jobs within can eventually create a stagnant environment.  How can anyone grow in such surroundings?  Nurturing inside employees can build a great organization with solid values.  Sometimes the resources are not available to train, so hiring outside the company will be beneficial to the bottom line.  This may be a hard decision to make.  It’s up to you if you want your organization to continue moving forward.
