Discussion:

Do you enjoy brushing your teeth? Maybe, that is a question that you have not thought about. Brushing your teeth is one of those things that I enjoy extrinsically. That means that I am indifferent to the act of brushing my teeth, in and of itself, but I enjoy the benefits that are derived from brushing my teeth. Brushing your teeth is something that you should be doing on a daily basis to aid with good dental health. If you think about the good that you are doing yourself by brushing your teeth, you might actually start to enjoy the act in itself. It does not take a long time to effectively brush your teeth and it does not cost you a lot of money. Also, brushing your teeth is not difficult if you follow these steps: gather your supplies, floss, rinse your mouth, apply toothpaste to your toothbrush, brush your teeth, rinse your mouth, rinse and gargle with mouthwash, and put away your supplies.

Gathering your supplies should be very easy to do when you are about to brush your teeth because if you are at home, your supplies are probably on the counter of the bathroom. If you are not at home, you might need to go out of way to gather your supplies. If you do not have any supplies, go to the pharmacy or the supermarket and get your brushing supplies. Get a toothbrush, a tube of toothpaste, a package of dental floss, and a bottle of mouthwash. If you have sensitive or tender gums, get the soft grade toothbrush as it will be gentler on your gums. If you are confused about which toothpaste to get, pick a regular one such as Colgate Toothpaste (Regular). The dental floss can be on a roll or it can be in a pack that contains individual ones that are disposable. Choose the one that you prefer. For mouthwash, the Listerine brand (regular) is a conservative choice that has been proven reliable over the years. There are generic brands of mouthwash, but they may or not be as effective as the Listerine brand so choose carefully.

Use the dental floss to loosen food particles that may be lodged in between your teeth. Do not put the dental floss too far down into your gums because this may damage your gums. Get the floss between as many teeth as you possibly can and rinse away any excess food particles that may have come up from between your teeth as a result. When you use dental floss, do not re-use it because it will have bacteria on it from the last time. Dental Floss is not expensive so you should not have to spend much money to procure it.

Now, you are ready to brush your teeth with the toothbrush and the toothpaste. When you are applying toothpaste to your toothbrush, do not put too much because the toothpaste will get in the way of proper brushing. Apply a small amount of toothpaste to your toothbrush and then start to brush your teeth in the following fashion: brush in a vertical motion. Do not make circular motions with the toothbrush and do not brush the outside of your teeth in a horizontal fashion. Your teeth are positioned close together and brushing the outside of them in a horizontal manner is contrary to their natural positioning.

Remember to brush your tongue properly so that you can get rid of the bacteria. Brushing your tongue should be a part of your daily brushing routine. Not brushing your tongue can lead to your having bad breath. Gently stroke your tongue with the toothbrush.

Rinse your mouth well after you have finished brushing your teeth. Get all of the toothpaste out of your mouth and all of the residue out as well. Rinse twice to be sure.

Use your mouthwash to gargle and rinse. Put about one-half of the bottle cap of Listerine in your mouth and rinse for about 30 seconds. Be careful not to swallow because the Listerine or mouthwash can harm you. Keeping the mouthwash longer than 30 seconds can burn your mouth and it can cause injury.

When you are finished brushing your teeth and gargling, put away your supplies and clean up your area. Some people keep their toothbrush in a case, but others keep it open. Close your dental floss and store it either on the counter or in the medicine chest until next time.

Brushing your teeth is a very important part of the day and you should take your time when doing so. Do not neglect your teeth. Instead, you should brush your teeth at least twice per day and three times or more if this is possible.
